Chateau de la Couronne

Traditional France

Reference: PV747

''Chateau de la Couronne is the perfect venue for special events and large family get-togethers, owing to its unique combination of ample space, grandeur and an intimate homely feel''

A beautiful blend of urban style and authentic French character, Chateau de la Couronne offers space, light and the warmest of welcomes.

Enjoy high ceilings and character features, internationally acclaimed interior design, modern facilities and comforts, all delivered with style and attention to detail. Conveniently situated on the edge of a pretty village, it offers a heated 14.5m pool within 5 acres of private grounds, large, beautifully presented and furnished rooms and facilities that include a billiard room, a private cinema, a bar, and the kind of kitchen guaranteed to bring out your inner Jamie Oliver.

The Chateau
The chateau sits in five acres of private grounds. The grounds include manicured gardens, terraces with tables and parasols, mature trees and shrubs to snooze under, and even your own football pitch for the more energetic. There is plenty of space to play games (boules, table tennis, badminton), or to get away from games being played if you prefer! And yet the chateau is still on the edge of Marthon village, so you don't need to get the car out to go to the boulangerie for your still-warm morning croissants. Even though it only has 600 inhabitants, the village supports a tabac, a boulangerie, a butcher, a general store, a pharmacy - even a doctor and a cinema! And when you stay here, you will be treated as part of everyday village life. Further afield, the chateau is less than two hours from five different airports, and just 20 mins from Angouleme, where the brand new, super High Speed Train (LGV), will whisk you to Paris in less than two hours.

Chateau de la Couronne is made for holidays, not least owing to its many wonderful facilities. The 14.5m x 6m pool is heated, fully walled with a double-locked entry gate for security, and is set in the chateau's 5 acres of private grounds. Surrounded with sun beds and a terrace to lounge on, it slopes gently from a depth of 1 metre at the shallow end to a full 2 metres at the deep end, so it works well for sun-worshippers just wanting a quick paddle to cool off, or exercise hounds who just love doing lengths.

In the private home cinema, you can c
hoose from the extensive DVD library and immerse yourself in the nine-foot screen and surround sound system. There's also no reason to miss the latest soaps either, because all the main terrestrial British TV channels are available too. Next door to the home cinema is a dedicated billiard room, with a full-size, slate bed US pool table.

If you really need to catch up with emails, t
here is a dedicated office/library for guests with free broadband internet. Just because you're in rural France does not mean you are uncontactable. Unless, of course, you want to be....

There are four salons all for your private use. One with a bar, one with a baby grand piano, and all opening onto the garden terrace with its tables and parasols and views of the manicured formal gardens with mature trees and lines of yew.

The trendy, spacious and professionally equipped kitchen maintains its warmth and style with extensive use of wooden surfaces, modern artwork, ancient doors used as wall hangings and fabulous moody lighting. With two ovens, gas range, three work-stations and all the utensils and equipment you need to create your own Masterchef winner, the kitchen is hugely popular with guests who enjoy cooking and want a space to express their creativity.

When all that fun and food gets too much, you can relax in one of the nine large bedrooms. Each one carefully designed with individuality and flair, they are extensively equipped with flat screen TV, DVD player and tea and coffee making facilities - some even have wine chillers.

And then there are the bathrooms. And what bathrooms they are. Big, luxurious, decadent. Some with two tubs, some incorporating the chateau's turrets, all perfect for unwinding. And they come fully equipped with both bath and pool towels, bathing products, hair dryers, and fluffy chateau bathrobes.

If you wish to venture out, it is worth knowing that t
his part of France is fantastic cycling country. Close by the chateau is a quiet cycle track - free from cars, level and shaded by trees - which goes all the way to Angouleme crossing over rivers, beside villages and running alongside sunflower fields. Within a five minutes' ride, you can also be off-road on public foothpaths and bridleways that go deep into the countryside where you are more likely to encounter a deer than another person. You can hire bikes before you arrive here - just let us know!
